Sixteen-year-old Amber Greene, a sophomore at the Perkins School for Self Improvement, is having a hard time to say the least.

She's dead, at least she was.

Now, trapped in the darkness of her own mind, Amber struggles to keep a grip on her humanity. Following the events of School of Secrets, her friends are determined to save her, but can she be saved from herself?

The headmaster's in over his head, and darkness has a tight grip on the Perkins School for Self Improvement. Still, the headmaster's nine-year-old daughter, a powerful wielder of elemental magic, believes there's a way to return Amber's lost humanity to her spirit.

In the midst of a world that seems to be fracturing on all sides, Amber must decide whether to embrace her humanity, or to give in to the killer instinct that is newly ingrained in her. On top of that, Marco Wen and Yoshi Tanaka are at it again with their sinister plans, and it's up to Amber and her friends to take a stand.

Can Amber find herself in time, or has she lost her grip on the remnants of reality?
